Perhaps most of the talk going into the World Cup is based on teams and players and coaches, but it is undeniable that the single biggest sporting spectacle this year will take place in the stadiums of South Africa.
There are a total of 10 stadiums which will host football matches this upcoming June and July for the FIFA World Cup. Out of those, 5 of them are brand new stadiums and one has undergone a great upgrade to fit world class standards. Danny Jordaan who is the CEO of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee, has expressed total confidence leading up to the World Cup and hasn’t backtracked one bit ever since winning the bid to host the big tournament.
“We always knew that our stadiums would be ready and not only that, we knew that they would be among the best the world has seen.”
Soccer City, with its recent redesign, has received praise from many as one of the more impressive stadiums of the world. Green Point stadium has wowed visitors with its beautiful backdrop. 2010 World Cup in South Africa feature other unique and impressive stadiums some which include a cable car an certain African flavors in design such as the reminiscence of the baobab tree and Africa’s wildlife.
Most of the stadiums have already had their opening, much ahead of schedule, and have had official matches played in them. It seems that South Africa has kept it’s promise of not only having the stadiums ready, but making them worthy of a World Cup competition.
